Haverhill Senior Baseball (HSB) announces sign ups for its 2010 Fall League and is now accepting registrations for its fall baseball program! Again this year, HSB will be entering teams in the Fall League program run by PLAY BALL of Salem, NH. The season commences on the first weekend after Labor Day (September 11-12). Depending on the weather, the regular season is 6 weekends, with playoffs the following weekend weather permitting. Last year, Haverhill played teams from, Methuen, as well as Pelham, Hampstead, Atkinson and Hudson, NH. Depending on the availability of fields, teams may travel to these towns for their games.

Last year there was a 12 year-old division that was for players who just graduated from Little League and will be playing on the regulation diamond for the first time. There was a middle school division made up primarily of players 13/14 years old, and there were two high school divisions.

We expect the 12 year-old division and the middle school division will play two 5-inning games (back-to-back) on Saturday morning or afternoon, while the high school divisions play their two 5-inning games on Sunday morning. All teams qualify for the single elimination playoffs that have been 9-inning games. The league uses a continuous batting order and free defensive substitution to encourage a coach to maximize playing time for his entire roster.

Depending on the level of interest and the number of volunteer coaches, Haverhill Senior Baseball tries to limit the rosters of its teams to 12 players. We try to place these teams in the division commensurate with the skill level of the players.

Included again this year with the PLAY BALL Fall League is a weekly team practice session supervised by the coaching staff of PLAY BALL. Each week, instruction of a different hitting, fielding or throwing skill will be presented in a group lesson setting by the professional coaches of PLAY BALL. Each HSB team will be offered one weekly group lesson session at Play Ball as part of our program. We believe this will be a valuable component to the HSB Fall League experience.

The registration fee for the fall program is $100. Due to the increased interest in our fall program, roster spots are filled on a “first paid” basis. Once we have filled 12 roster spots, we begin accumulating players for the next team. We encourage you to fill out the enclosed registration form and send the $100 fee in promptly to secure a roster spot.

Parents, if you are interested in volunteering as a head or assistant coach, please make a note on the bottom of the application. We’re planning on having an organizational meeting the week before Labor Day to assemble the teams. At that time the players will be notified as to who their coach is and on what team they have been placed.
